Temperate springtails are generally smaller than tropical springtails.  They are great food for tiny dart frogs, salamanders, and other tiny amphibians.  They prefer a moist, cool, and even wet habitat.  They will thrive in a vivarium that is cool and damp.
Tropical springtails are a bit larger and good for use as food in slightly larger reptiles and amphibians. They live in warmer habitats; and will reproduce quickly in a warm vivarium.
