If I buy large mealworms and keep them at 72-75 degrees, how long will it be before they pupate?
5000 Mealworms
I actually want to feed them to my birds as the large size mealworm, but would prefer not to give up a half shelf of my refrigerator as I'm doing now to prevent maturing. If I store the large worms at room temp, I know they will eventually pupate (which I can feed) and then turn to beetles (which I can also feed).
But I do prefer to feed them as worms. To calculate how many to buy in a batch, I want to figure how long they will persist before morphing. Assume an indoor environment, your bran, decent humidity, good maintenance and regular feeding with carrots for moisture. The biggest variable here is temperature. If the large mealworms are kept at 72-75 degrees, how long will they likely remain worms before they morph?
