Can you keep fruit flies in the refridgerator?
Flightless Fruit Flies
I heard that they go to sleep if you put them in the freezer temporarily so it makes it easier for feeding so they don't jump everywhere. Can I keep them in the refrigerator long term or will that kill them?
You can put your cup into the fridge for 20 minutes to make the flies dormant before feeding your animals (so they won't fly away).
The cold temperatures (less than 55°) are not ideal for flies to thrive. The colder it is, the less chance they have of surviving. At 50°F, they will go into diapause and can be kept for several weeks, but most refrigerators are much colder than that.
In the wild, they will find warm places like tree hollows or leaf piles to winter over.
