Discoid roaches like it very hot, and they lose moisture rapidly from their exoskeletons and, as adults, wings. Because of that, we recommend a diet high in moisture. Bug Burger is ideal because of its high moisture and protein content and what we recommend first. Breeding females also need a little more protein than your general population. Besides Bug Burger, vegetables like kale that are high in moisture and sweet potatoes that are high in protein are great for your Discoid. Fruits tend to attract gnats and flies, so use them with caution. They will love bananas though! You can also feed them wheat bran, oats (be sure they are 100% oats), chicken mash (no antibiotics), fish flakes, dry milk, and ground rabbit pellets. When feeding dry foods they must have lots of water available and high humidity.
Here are the instructions from our care sheets as well: -Place your roaches in a container with smooth sides so they can't escape (plastic tubs, aquariums, etc) this will also keep other insects from entering! -Use a screen lid for an aquarium or cut a hole in a plastic tub, covering it with screen or plastic mesh. -Add vertical egg flats to give them hiding places, and to keep them up off of their droppings. -Keep your roaches warm (around 90°) and at least 60% humidity. Adult males will dehydrate rapidly through respiration from their wings. -A ceramic heat emitter or under tank heater can be used with a thermostat to maintain the temperature
