We do not wish to breed them, but it sounds fun!
The type of beetle he collects is the Convergent Lady Beetle. Hippodamia convergens
The ladybugs for sale I saw are all mix species. So, I assume they are field collected. There are a few YouTubers claiming that they could raise ladybugs just like mealworms. Some people says it is very difficult to raise them.
Is it true that ladybugs are difficult to raise? You guys/gals are the biggest bug people I know. Do you have plan to raise and sell ladybugs for gardeners? I believe we would prefer the carnivores raised by live insects/bugs instead the honey, raisins, and/or apple. How difficult it is to raise carnivore ladybugs? And more importantly, how expensive it will be compare to the field collected bugs that we had no idea what they ate before.
If you don't plan to sell these carnivore ladybugs, do you have some tips on how to get and raise them?
