It is moisture in your colony that will allow mites to thrive. We use grains that have been stored in a silo for one week before use to harness the power of the California sun to bake our grains at a low temperature to ensure they are pest-free before use.
We grow and store them on 32" trays so they are only 1/2" deep or less allowing moisture to evaporate so that mites cannot thrive.
