For a successful breeding colony, you should have at least 3 roach enclosures with screened lids. We have found that black bins (these are sold at Walmart: Black 50 Gallon Sterilite work well with a large rectangle cut into the lid and covered with screen and hot glue.
Having three enclosures to start makes cleaning easier, as you can transfer your roaches to a fresh bin by shaking them off the egg flats when they become soiled.
You will need egg flats to provide more surface area that are stacked vertically. You can safely fit 300 roaches per square foot of varied sizes per bin provided they have egg flats.
Dubia breed best in dark, warm, humid environments. We keep ours at 90° and in almost complete darkness at 75% humidity.
Feed your roaches fruits and vegetables and grains. A commercial roach chow (e.g. Bug Burger) works well for providing their protein needs. Remove old vegetables at once.
Roaches can be given water in the form of water crystals to prevent drowning, or if you're using Bug Burger it is an all-in-one food and water source.
