I have my mealworms in wheat bran, with potatoes & carrots for moisture. Why do they gather in the 4 corners? Mealworms

I have 2000 mealworms I purchased from your company. I have them in a sterlite container with wheat bran and provide potatoes & carrots for moisture. I noticed that the mealworms gather in the 4 corners of the enclosure. Why do they do that?

Are you sifting the worm castings out of your bin?

If not, it may be getting too warm at the bottom and your worms are migrating towards the edges to keep cool

I just received them about a week and a half ago. I moved them to a cooler area but it didn't help Since you mentioned about them being too warm, I separated them into two different containers and it seemed to help. I may have had too many in the one container and they were too warm? We have several reptiles so we go through them pretty quickly. Thank you for your quick response.

These are other things that will make your colony too warm:

1. Keeping your substrate too deep. We keep ours at 1.5" or less at all times. We can't afford for our bins to become too warm. The only exception to this is when we are allowing beetles to lay eggs and the casting will build up on the bottom increasing the depth.

2. Using a too dense bedding. We use wheat bran because it is very light, thin, and small. It allows heat and moisture to escape very readily. Using a dense bedding like oats will trap heat and moisture.
