For our large Superworms, we can only safely place 100 in a cup without them becoming overheated.
They are such fast-moving worms that they generate too much heat when we cup them in higher numbers.
We recommend purchasing them in cups in quantities of 100 if you want them packed in cups.
For amounts higher than that, We have found in 58 years of shipping our worms that they travel the very best if we ship them in shredded newspaper. They can move inward to keep warm or migrate to the outside to keep cool. The newspaper is held inside a cotton bag that helps wick any moisture they create outside so they don't get exposed to mold or bacteria along the journey.
When worms travel with bedding (or food) they will eat it increasing their metabolism causing them to increase in temperature, defecate, and the warmth will cause overheating in warm weather and condensation in cold weather. Both are very bad for the health of your worms.
We also sell our bedding on our website if you would like us to package it in the box in a separate container from your worms.
