We pack up to 1000 in a cup for travel, but that many in a cup will become overcrowded and not thrive for long.
If you purchase 100 or less they can be safely kept in the cup long term. Any more than that and we recommend transferring them to a Kritter Keeper (or other enclosure) with egg flats.
No matter how they are stored, they will live the absolute longest if they have sufficient warmth, food, and water. We strongly recommend using Repashy Bug Burger - an all-in-one food/water for your feeders. It can be made in small batches using a cup in the microwave and once hardened put by the teaspoon into your cricket enclosure.
We have tested the livelihood of crickets stored in cups and reptile enclosures and they live weeks longer when offered Bug Burger. Not only do they receive adequate hydration, but it is also nutritionally complete and has the appropriate ratio of protein for invertebrate health.
