Mealworms and Buffalo beetles are very similar in that if there are no sources of moisture they will eventually eat anything moist in search of water. We have read lots of articles about Buffalo attacking mealworms when they are 'vulnerable' (e.g. shedding) but have never experienced anything of that nature.
We actually don't recommend using Buffalo with mealworm colonies (we prefer Dermestes) because Buffalo and Tenebrio mealworms look too similar and make it hard to sort out your colonies if you ever need to.
