We pack our worms in soy based newspaper so that they will have lots of surface area to crawl and not 'pool' which can generate moisture and heat. They will also nibble on the paper on the journey to you if they get hungry!
They are packed in either a muslin or plastic mesh bag, depending on the weather. This allows them to stay aerated on the journey to you and either wick moisture away or allow it to evaporate. This time of year we are using the mesh bags.
Unless you buy our worms in cups, we don't pack them in bran. We find that packing them in bran encourages them to eat on the journey and increases their metabolism. This will both generate heat and also cause them to defecate.
All of this is packed in a cardboard box for shipping with holes in the side to provide fresh air while in shipping.
Thank you so much for your question! Please let us know if we can be of any help at all.
